Classroom Design

The VCU CDC building has three floors: ground, first, and second floor. Its unique design influences educational programming.

Rooms G1 and G2

Located on the ground flood, are designed for the younger children approximately 16-30 months old.

Classroom G-1 in the Child Development Center..  Classroom G-2 in the Child Development Center.

 

Rooms 101 and 102

Located on the second floor, are for children approximately 30-42 months.

Rooms 201 and 202

Located on the top floor, are for children approximately 42 months-Kindergarten eligible. There is some age overlap on each of the floors to provide for developmental transitions. Children in rooms 201 and 202 must be toilet trained.

Rooms G1, G2, 101, and 102

Have diaper changing accommodations.

The number of children per classroom is determined by adult-to-child ratios according to guidelines set forth by the Virginia Department of Education and is influenced by ratio recommendations from NAEYC. These ratios are adhered to during all hours of operation, both in classrooms and in outdoor play areas.
