Welcome to the VCU Child Development Center

The VCU Child Development Center offers full-day care and developmentally-appropriate education for the families of VCU faculty, staff and students.

Our center offers more than traditional daycare -- it's a place where children benefit from top-quality care and learning experiences shaped by the research and expertise of the VCU School of Education faculty, staff, and students. This collaboration brings mutual benefits, fostering hands-on learning for early education students while enhancing our children's educational environment.

One of just 12 centers in Richmond to hold a National Association for the Education of Young Children accreditation, the Child Development Center is committed to a safe, nurturing environment for

Our Mission

Our Mission

The mission of the VCU CDC is to provide high quality, developmentally appropriate care and education for the children of faculty, staff, student families, and the community and to serve as a learning lab for student learning experience, faculty research, and community outreach.

Teaching Philosophy

Teaching Philosophy

The VCU CDC has a philosophy of play-based learning. Founded upon the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, it is the responsibility of the Center to provide high quality early childhood care and education to children in a safe, healthy, nurturing, and responsive environment.

We believe children learn through play and through strong relationships with the adults in their lives. The CDC uses the Creative Curriculum, a research-based curriculum that focuses on the development of the whole child: social, emotional, physical, and cognitive. The curriculum is play-based and constructivist in nature.
